Do you love cooking?

I’m a big fan of the Masterchef series.

And you know you can learn a lot from them.

Like top chefs recheck every element of their dish.

They make sure it is seasoned-properly.

They make sure the presentation is up to the mark.

And the food must taste GOOD!

But what differentiates an Expert and an Amature Chef is…

…Finding mistakes and correcting them.

It enhances the product.

Simple!

No complex theory.

Now you must be wondering how is this related to “Copywriting”.

Well, my friend…

It’s not only related to copywriting.

As the matter of fact-

This brilliant hack is applicable in every aspect.

You name it…

Whether it’s Digital Marketing or any other technology or in your life.

And it’s called Editing.

Every job needs editing.

But for now, let’s focus on copywriting.

Remember the first draft principle that we have discussed.

While writing you must only concentrate on writing.

No editing while writing is the key to a successful copywriter.

Let the ideas flow on the paper. (Though I prefer notepad)

Now comes the crucial part.

That evolves the crappy copy-

(with a lot of grammatical and spelling mistakes)

into a [mind-blowing money-generating sales-copy].

Yes, you’re right.

It’s Editing.

In the editing process, you refine your copy to express exactly

what you want to express with the fewest words.

It’s like the story of a diamond.

When a diamond is found it looks like a piece of coal or carbon.

That black, ugly stone is then polished.

And it soon becomes the world’s most beautiful gemstone.

Remember editing is a nurturing process.

And just as there is no perfect way to nurture your child, there are many different approaches to

editing copy that is certainly acceptable

You rearrange the words you wrote to make the thought more direct.

Simple Right?

Or it may mean cutting out words that have little contribution to the overall feel of the ad.

Or It may mean substituting new words that express your thoughts better.

And it may even mean adding words to clarify a thought.

But the goal in writing ad copy is to express the thoughts you want to

convey in the most powerful way but with the fewest words.

So the key is to convey your message most shortly and easily.

How writing is different from editing?

Writing a is entirely different from editing.

Writing is like giving birth.

It’s painful. Long process.

While editing is …

Raising a child.

Here’re some mindblowing techniques for editing your first draft(Joseph Sugarman Copywriting secrets):

1. Look for any “that” words.

Overuse of “that” words can kill your flow. Try to avoid it.

2. Edit for rhythm.

Make your sentence short. Simple. Easy to understand.

It must maintain the slippery slide.

3. Consider combining sentences

I combined the two sentences that read,

“A bathroom scale is like a report card. It’s a feedback mechanism that tells

you how well you’ve done.”

I condensed it into

“Your bathroom scale is like a report card — a feedback mechanism that

tells you how well you’ve done.”

4. Eliminate unnecessary words.

You can use the Hemingway app. It shows all the unnecessary words and complex sentences. Eliminate them.

Maintain your score below 5.

5. Rearrange thoughts so they flow better.

Read aloud the copy. Cut short the longer sentences.

How much time does it require to edit your first draft in Copywriting?

Take as Long as You Need.

The reason why editing plays an important role in Copywriting is:

“If this guy can’t get his grammar straight, how do I

know he runs his business right?”

You see while your prospect reads your copy

He must feel connected. Now it doesn’t mean that you have to write like an English professor.

But make sure your sentences are correct and make sense.

There is no fixed rule for editing.

It takes time to master the skill.

Hope you have enjoyed reading it.
